Aged Care is becoming an issue of urgency in more countries around the globe, which is creating opportunities for employment within the Health Care industry. Australia is addressing the problem head-on by planning for future facilities to be built and for current education programs for staffing of those facilities in the future.

CEO Cameron O’Reilly of The Aged Care Guild (the main representative body for the major aged-care providers) said members think it will be unlikely the industry can meet the projected demand for 76,000 new beds that the Aged Care Financing Authority said were needed by 2023-24. “Governments can adjust the budget each year but the reality is they can neither reverse the need for the provision of more complex healthcare nor the increasing demand for residential care places,” O’Reilly said (as reported by Mark Bowling of The Catholic Leader).

Recent studies show the trend for greater Aged Care need, and Australia’s government is already anticipating appropriate funding requirements. “The estimates on Australia’s ageing population are conservatively based on the federal government’s planning ratio which forecasts that 88 people in every 1000 people aged more than 70 years of age will need some government funding for aged care”, according to Matthew Cranston of the Australian Financial Review.

Opportunities are now open for student nurses, fresh graduates and RNs (up to 18 months after graduation) to work for a year in Australia (and earn $15 to $18 an hour as an Aged Care Intern)! For more information, contact International Education Specialists (Inter-Ed) through our Contact Page on this website, or email us your CV/Resume to set up a free consultation/pre-screening.
